CO-OP, episode 0003 - F.E.A.R.2 and Flower

Valentine's day. With a bunch of nerds trying to produce a weekly video game show on a shoestring budget, t'is a day that must live in infamy.

Anthony Gallegos of RebelFM/Eat. Sleep. Game. fame swings on by to lend his awesome, 'fro-covered brain to our F.E.A.R.2 discussion. JayFresh and Rob aren't intimidated by said 'fro, however, and join in for the sit-down on why the sequel is better than the original.

Unsurprisingly, thatgamecompany delivers on their promise with Flower. This segment brings back former EGM staffer Giancarlo Varanini along with another RebelFM/Eat. Sleep. Game. member in the form of Nick Suttner—who may be showing up on CO-OP for the last time—join Ryan and I to talk about our deeply satisfying experience in a wholly unique experience in the gaming-verse.

Finally, we know we said there was a pretty big announcement coming this week, but unfortunately we're going to have to delay that just a wee bit longer! It'll be worth the wait, I promise! One thing I've figured out by morphing into "the business guy" for this operation is that sometimes how quickly things move is entirely out of your control. The news is burning a hole in my brain in that same way a dollar burns a hole in the pocket of a fifth-grader, but hopefully I--and you--can hang on just a little longer :)

Great episode again guys. Lots of people are talking in the comments about how this is a great new direction for the show. I'm not sure that it seems like a new direction to me, it feels like more of an evolution/refinement than anything. However people choose to categorise it, I like it very much indeed. My workplace is becoming a very bleak place indeede. Large numbers of people are being laid off around me and I'm finding it very unsettling indeed. A good number of these people are friends and I worry for them and feel guilty about remaining in almost equal measure. The situation mirrors the events at 1UP in that the speed, immediacy and extent of the cuts has been breath-taking. This podcast helps to brighten up what is a fairly depressing environment right now. The circumstances leading to it's birth give me some faith that my friends (talented to the last man) will be OK in the long run. Against a dark background, the last episode made me laugh out loud, so thanks. :o)

On a different tack, I tended to watch the 1UP Show on my iPod during the daily commute. This isn't possible with CO-OP, at least without using YouTube downloader style apps and I'm not sure about the legality/permissability of these. Have you any plans to return to iTunes or post the show in a small, more mobile format (480x320, H.26 for example)?

I'm really diggin the stuff before and between game segments. It really puts you guys on a more personal level, something I feel the 1UP Show did well. I'm happy to see you've been keeping this up; giving your audience peeks into the way you live, with a nice dose of humor, adds a lot of character to the show, and ultimately makes your discourse about games all the more impactful.

Hm.. I just meant that they should work consciously with what kind of story they want to tell with their setting. Is it realistic or romanticized (like the 1UP Show)? Use every aspect of the medium to tell the story…

I guess I'm just echoing many other fans, but WOW! This show has a flow to it that far surpasses the other episodes... hard to put into words, but after watching the show, I felt satisfied... maybe it's just good editing, or good writing, or both, but whatever it is, keep it up!
