Photo Update: New Equipment Arrives!
matt chandronaitIf you've been following our progress, you know that a couple weeks ago our PayPal account was finally unlocked and we were able to start using your generous donations to buy equipment. We've invested in software, computers, and sound which has helped us continue to create a show at the quality you've hopefully come to expect. Yesterday morning UPS dropped off the latest batch of equipment: a new camera and a p2 card! This will allow us to shoot in glorious High-Definition, the results of which will finally catapult us into the modern age! You won't see the results right away, but soon. More cannot be said.
The P2 card is crucial component that will allow us to record HD video straight to a digital format, but at this time we only feel comfortable spending money on one, 16gig card. That means every 34 minutes we'll have to dump to a computer, but that should get us by for now! We got an awesome deal on the camera by buying the Japanese model. Saved us somewhere between $1200 and $1400 buckaroos. This is a crucial next step that will go a long way into improving the show and we couldn't have done it without your amazing support. Thank you!

I am currently using the Sony HD Cam EX3 and it has 2 slots for the P2 cards. What is nice about this is you can swap one out while the other one is recording. The tapeless work flow is incredible though. The cards are expensive though. I'd suggest ebaying 1 or 2 and save your self a couple hundred. Their pretty solid items.
Other then starting off in PAL mode what is the difference between the European and States model? I'd love to see a written or video review of it.

Awesome, congrats on the equipment! Makes me want to buy something expensive...I want the feeling associated with unboxing pricey items. Color me jealous.
Yeah, our camera has two P2 slots as well, so once we think we can afford another card that'll help out tons!
@MSUSteve -- as for the makeup, I think we'll just go on in all our shiny, pimply, nerdy goodness. You know you love it ;p

That's awesome. I wonder what the major difference between that and the $600 consumer-grades they have on amazon are? is it more than just quality?
Just wondering how you all are doing this? You say your paypal unfroze, but you have dropped at least 10k on equipment. Plus you all need salaries too, how is it going to work if you've spent a majority of the donations? Not trying to be a dick, just want to see you guys succeed where 1up didn't. Plus adsense is low on returns unless your getting a ass load of clicks on the site. Just wondering if we are getting ready to see some changes in how Area5 handles the buisness?
@Matt That's good. The second slot is great when shooting on location. Congratulations on the support, success, and new gear. If for some reason you guys need help in Phoenix make sure to look me up. Or you you want to play some Left 4 Dead instead...
What resolution is that camera go up to? Will I be able to watch Co-op in 1280x800 resolution on my MacBook in the future? If so I would totally be willing to pay $2-3 an episode on iTunes...
Yes, there are plans for the future and we're not spending money that we don't have. Yes, we have to pay ourselves, but remember that Godfather II sponsorship that started popping up? That's going to give us a chunk of change to support ourselves on. I can't tell you how much it is, but I can tell you that it's enough to keep us afloat until something else that is in the works right now takes hold. It warms the cockles o' me heart to know you're worried about us being able to keep on keepin' on :). Rest assured, however, that we at least *think* we're making the right decisions to keep us afloat!
@Mat ... we'll be in 720p, which should still look pretty darn good on that MacBook!

New hardware FTW! Its great to see that you guys are able to slowly set everything into place that you will need for the future. Simply seeing you get all this new equipment is a bonus on to fronts. One, it means that you have been able to get enough money from your sponsorships to keep yourselves afloat and produce quality content, and two it means that we get to keep watching that content.
Always fun to see these updates, especially as I helped in a very small way towards it - something I always wanted to do with The1UpShow. It's really pleasing to see you've got something going here. Keep posting the hardware pr0n! :)

Without donations like yours, Tufty, I can say that we absolutely would not have made it. We quite literally exist in our current form only because the fans came out and made it happen!
Heh, according to your Google Ads, www.rentp2cards.com can hook you up with another 16GB P2 for $80/day or $160/week if you are on a road trip or something. From their phone number, looks like they are in Burbank. Damn, Google is scary.

Dont be afraid of charging for your content, i would pay a few $ a month to get access to the HD versions of your show.
Congrats on the new equipment guys! Must be pretty stoked. Well hopefully you guys are a little bit closer to getting all the stuff you need. Personally, I think all the content you've been putting out so far has been great so I cant wait to see whats possible now.

Keep up the awesome work, it must have been tough but I can't help but feel what happened to 1up has been a blessing in disguise. It's rallied the community and given you the freedom to take things in a slightly different direction. Looking forward to more Co-op!

Love that camera, being able to pop the P2 card into my laptop and capture directly to FCP is a godsend.
I really can't wait for the next Co-op. You guys are doing a better job with this then you were with the 1up Show. I never used to anticipate Friday's as much as I do now. The HD will make the show complete. I wonder if you guys could get picked up by some corporation like G4 or GameTrailers. Would that be a good thing or would you guys prefer to stay independent?
You guys are lucky to have all these supporters paying for what you need. I wish I could have that kind of support, because I need to buy: A decent video camera, A good computer that can withstand videos and editing (I hear mac is good for this), and I wish you guys luck.

What is the best way for you guys to get credit for our viewing? Youtube, vimeo? I have always been a fan of keepvid.com and downloading content. Do you get any 'count' of that activity? Should we get it through vimeo if we want to DL it? Does it matter? Just trying to help a brother out etc.
