CO-OP 0206 -- Battlefield 1943, Wii Sports Resort -- The City Always Wins

Ever met that person so dedicated to their car that there was nothing, at all, ever that would get them to give it up? A situation wherein it is nearly unbelievably as to the circumstances and lengths they will go to in order to maintain that personal “freedom” in spite of all evidences and personal habits to the contrary? Yeah, that’s Rob. More after the show:

With a franchise as storied as the Battlefield games, it’s only natural to believe that rehash, even at a discounted price, would seem little more than a nostalgic cash-in. But, if it works on us for every classic Nintendo property ever, why not one of the lauded and favored of the Double-You-Double-You-Eye-Eye era of multiplayer mayhem du yester-year? We figured this was a title/franchise worth bringing out the big guns for and thus we went for a round-table discussion featuring a number of guests greater than the usual. While BitMob’s Dan “Shoe” Hsu finds Battlefield 1943 to be less-than, the greater-than team of Kat Bailey, Tyler Barber from RebelFM and Eat. Sleep. Game., GameSpy’s Will Tuttle and Anthony Gallegos (Anthony, of course, also of RebelFM fame), and our own Jason Bertrand form-up a squad to storm the beaches of awesometown.

Yes, I know Wii Sports Resort was a recent feature on CO-OP, but now that we’ve had a chance to really dig into the final, retail version it’s clear which events are successful and which lack imagination. Shoe stays on to talk with JayFresh and I about the could-have-beens.

Second comment!...

great show old chums!

can't wait till next week

ta ta chums!

Also please tell your other comment authors to stop the hate!!!

Thank you.

Love watching your guys' show. I started about a month ago and went back through the archives to see the rest. Since then I have been excited for each coming Tuesday for new episodes!

I definitely agree with the majority said about Wii Sports Resort. As I was watching the segment I wanted to comment about what Jay was saying about having an audience. It makes the difference, believe me. While it's fun on its own, its real enjoyment comes from a group of people playing. Even just taking turns with one Wiimote is fun had for everyone. Anyway, keep up the awesomeness!

Not since the early days of GamesMaster (UK) have I enjoyed a gaming show as much as CO-OP, keep up the good work.

Been loving Battlefield 1943 over the last month, but with no character/weapon upgrades and limited number of maps It may be a short love affair. That is unless some exiting DLC is released soon. Also 1943 seems to have done wonders for the amount of players going back to Bad Company.

Wii Sports Resort will easily be the years biggest seller, everywhere you look there are adverts for this game. It was even featured on one of the news channels in the UK.

What is the title of the song used in the beginning and the end of this episode? I've noticed you use it every time in the opening "sketch".
Is it something you composed?

July 28, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRenoir

Damn you Co-op! I didn't think Battlefield 1943 was anything for me, but after watching your segment on it I have to get it...buying that today, and with Fat Princess coming out on thursday, I'm gonna be outting some cash on games this week... Like it wasn't enough that I just bought Shatter and the Wipeout Fury add-on... Well at least my gaming weekend is confirmed!

P.S: Love Rob's acting when realizing his car got towed!

Been having problems trying to DIGG the article, I get an error message "Please enter a properly formatted URL"

Any idea how to fix it?

July 28, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterZach

Good show, once again... but Ryan: Where is the Wipeout love? Seems like no one is covering it...

I can't digg either BTW,

July 28, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWes

Digg link fixed! Please click it if'n ya get the chance!

@Jarvie ... Yup, just no time for any of us to play a new iPhone game this week. It'll be back, don't worry! We love doing the iPhone stuff :)

@Novato ... People can hate all they want, we just don't have to listen to them ;)

@Alex ... absoutely, man! It's a game just MADE for groups of people. Then again, games in general are a social exercise despite the unflattering stereotype we often receive

@Al ... I've never heard of GameMasters--you know, highly-ethnocentric American mediascape and all--are there any YouTube's of it out there?

@Renoir ... yeah, that's a Ryan original!

@Coheno ... I was up until WA-HAY too late last night playing 1943. Good god damn that game is great.

@Wes ... Stay tuned ;)

this player is terrible. chock full of unavoidable advertisements.

The Wii sports section was awesome and covered things you guys didn't talk about last time and the Battle Field section; I was laughing at the problems you had thinking I never will have them and never had them. Then after I went on, couldn't connect to my EA account... then was been dropped from games, then the stupid texture issues. But fantastic show.

July 28, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDan Baker

Good show as always. I was wondering if you guys had any plans to cover Little King's Story for the Wii? It's similar to Pikmin but with a few more game elements in the mix. Currently it seems like a great game no one has ever heard of. I remember the 1UP show really sold me on PixelJunk Monsters, which in turn sold me on the series. So I was wondering if Little King's Story would ever be lucky enough to get some of that magic.

I'm also guessing there will be a Fat Princess review in the near future. If that is the case I'm looking forward to it.

CoolStuff guys!

July 28, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCoolStuff

Great Battlefield 1943 discussion! I really loved the wide variety of input. And Kat Bailey, holding it down! Maybe one day there will be at least 3 women in game chats of 6.
But I still strongly dislike the Battlefield t-shirts...at least the one that I'm thinking of.
Fantastic episode, as usual!

@Matt

Will there be an Area5/Co-op soundtrack at some point? I would love to have that song I mentioned in my previous post.

July 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRenoir

@ matt chandronait
Gamesmaster is looking a bit dated now, it was a 90s show, but as a teenager there had been nothing like it on TV. Plenty of clips on youtube, although most poor quality.

Here is an idea of what the show was like (checkout a friend of yours at 7.30) :-)

Really good and funny.
You maid good guy.

Thank you to make me laugh

July 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLouis Rencontre

I love you guys, but you're acting is horrible. Awful! Last time, it was with the computer viruses. The completely blare stank at the computer. "Oh no. Oh, dude. No. No. Oh, c'mon. No." You sounded like you just woke up. Also, I'm pretty sure I'd freak out even more if I couldn't find my CAR. I'd roll around on the screaming, maybe frothing at the mouth.

Great show, but in the skits, it'd be nice if you could either take the enthusiasm in them up a notch, or just make it so painfully obvious that you're bad and you know it that it becomes funny. Right now it feels like you guys are in an awkward space in between those two.

Don't hate me! Just thought I'd give some advice to improve the show.

July 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterNaota_391

Why does your guys site make my mouse cursor blink? Any ideas?

July 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSJS

To SJS, my mouse cursor changes to the "pointer with hourglass" for half a second every five seconds, could this be related?'

Also, I already bought WipEout HD (and Fury) and it is great, yet I am still excited to see your review.

July 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterT Jenkins

@ Brian ... we definitely are going to cover Little King's Story, but MAN is it a long game so it might not be as soon as we'd like. Fat Princess is also a definite

@Senten ... he always wants to be here, he's just kinda low-key :)

@will cao ... nope, it ain't, but we were going for the funny, not the realistic ;)

@Renoir ... Hard to say. We actually don't own the rights to any of the music on the show except for the tracks we've made. Most of what you here is music that other artists have given us permission to use but only for the purposes of CO-OP, not to distribute in any other way. That doesn't entirely rule it out, but it makes it more complex than just putting up some albums for sale.

@SJS & @T Jenkins ... that's Revision3's player. We've written them about it several times and they're "working on it." I suggest going to their site and complaining to them about it as well. The more voices, the faster it will get fixed. Apologies about that :(

@Louis Rencontre ... haha! Glad you liked it! And I'm glad the humor can translate to different countries outside of the USA!

@Al ... Oh, nice man! Thanks for the link. That's about what I'd expect from that era of television, but it still irks me that gaming-focused, broadcast TV has still to really catch on in the West. I went to Korea once and watched their gaming TV station and it was just amazing. Even though I couldn't understand a word of it I was still captivated by its content and thoroughness.

July 29, 2009 | Registered Commentermatt chandronait

@Al ... oh yeah! And holy fuck! THAT'S JD! hahahaha!

July 29, 2009 | Registered Commentermatt chandronait

@Matt

Totally agree about broadcast TV gaming shows. Over the last 15 years I have watched numerous gaming shows in the UK, most last one year if lucky before being cancelled. There was even a gaming channel launched in the UK, but it totally failed. The problem for me with most of them is the intended audience. Creators of gaming shows seem to think only young teenage boys play video games.

The worst of these shows for me was Gamezville, it tried to make gaming cool and a bit gangsta! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTRXw_KVo8E

Broadcast TV gaming shows have had such a bad start in the UK I do not think TV producers see any future for them. At present I am not aware of any currently being aired.

Regards
Al

Another first rate show - well done guys.

On the strength of Battlefield 1943, I went and bought Battlefield Bad Company and Battlefield Modern Warfare 2 - so DICE done well :)

love what you guys do on the show. I think its one of the best game shows out there. Keep up what you guys are doing.

Any chance that WipEout HD Fury on CO-OP? I know at least Ryan is a big fan.

When will you guys review Wipeout Fury expansion, I know that's one of Ryan's most enjoyable franchises?

Anyone know which of the artists mentioned in the credits the song playing at the end of the battlefield segment belongs to?

A little off topic, Guys... I have a question. Last week I discovered this site:
Rivalspot.com - Play Ps3 tournaments for cash
They say you can play online Nhl2k game tournaments on any console for cash... had anyone tried that before? Looks like a cool idea...
Are there any other sites where you can play sports games for real moneys? I Googled and found only Bringit.com and Worldgaming.com but it looks these guys don't specialize in sport gamez. Any suggestions?
