Can You Hear Me Now?
matt chandronaitIt was pretty quiet around Area 5 HQ today. Ryan, Cesar, Rob, and Jason were out all day shooting for this week's episode which left Matt and I alone to work quietly on various administrative and business tasks. Now that we've finished our retrospective on 2008 it's time to look at the growing list of great games coming out this year. I would also like to announce that we have finally attained a boom mic! As many of you know, sound was one of the more frustrating issues we had to deal with when we started making CO-OP but, thanks to you guys, there should be a noticeable improvement in the next episode. Our PayPal account finally got unlocked last week, meaning we can actually put your generous donations to good use! Highest up on the priority scale was audio gear. A shotgun mic, boom pole, wind-screen and wireless kit. These things totaled around $550 and arrived yesterday. Next up is the really expensive stuff: cameras, software and computers.

@Andrew H ... a video version of backlog would be awesome! We're still working on how to pay for what we do right now, but believe me that it's definitely on all our minds!
@DrMnike ... We're down in the Mission District, if you're familiar with San Francisco at all :) -- and yeah, part of the plan is to bring on a lot more industry people to talk about games in the same way we always did with the 1UP/EGM staff. I think it would be fun to rope in the community, too :)
Love it so far. The final moments of last week's episode were really heart-warming. I can't say that I watch your show for the emotional content, but it's nice when it's peppered in so elegantly. I want to hear about games, but I also want to know what you're all going through.
And I'm sure you're getting all kinds of conflicting feedback, but I for one love the comedy skits sometimes found in the 1UP show. Sure I'd rather have game content... But a little bit of funny here and there never hurt anyone.

@Matt. I actually live in Mexico city, but I have relatives down in Florentine Street, near the MacDonalds at Mission St, so I´m familiar with the zone.
How we, the community, could help you guys to increase (attract, turn the eyes) the awareness of the publishers from your work, so they can know we are a reliable source for their advertisements and product exposure?. the unique way of product placement you did when talking about games in a strange place (like in an alley, cafe shop, bar, Shane office, etc)is what stand out your quality and keep us gamers concentrated in your words,as gamers for gamers, away from the tv, blending the game + your trademark style.
I really want to contribute so you guys could live from these concept, aside from the the donations. The other day Anthony threw a question about T-shirts and stuff you could sell through eat-sleep-game / Area5.tv, don´t forget the idea.

As for making money on the show, I highly suggest that for the time being you guys talk to Audible.com about becoming a sponsor. Also, create an amazon associates account and list links to games that you talk about using the affiliate ID. I hear Leo Laporte over at Twit.TV is well up around $2 million/year on interstitial commercials alone.
