CO-OP 0111 -- Drop and Give me E3 -- Bionic Commando, Plants vs. Zombies, Zeno Clash and Sway

Please make with the Digging. Our marketing budget is $0--which means all we've got is you!

JayFresh, it must be known, is secretly the harshest taskmaster of Area 5. His boyish good looks and easy demeanor belies an inner demon whose sole purpose is to expunge, nay murder inefficiency. In this episode, the aforementioned demon comes forth in a manner rather resembling a coach from a popular network television program. We'll leave it up to you to figure out which one. His mission? E3 preparedness. More after the show:

We can generally get behind the idea of the "series reboot" as, for the most part, they've been successful at selling our nostalgia back to us while simultaneously gifting us some original gameplay that's easy to get in to. Bionic Commando is, fortunately, no exception. Well, unless you're David Ellis, but who really listens to him anyway? Okay, okay, we do. He and Ryan hash out the good and the bad.

For those of you that don't know Jeff Green, you may not know it, but you wish you did. For those that don't even know of him, watch the Plants vs. Zombies segment, Google/Wikipedia him, maybe go back and read some old issues of Computer Gaming World, GFW Magazine, EGM (I wish the entire archive of GFWRadio was still available) and then tell me he doesn't measure up to all myths and legends. This is not to besmirch the contributions of the always-brilliant Tiff Chow and our own JayFresh and Cesar, but, really, it's Jeff Green!

Of course brilliance distinguishes itself in packs and Giant Bomb's Brad Shoemaker lends his to the roster in our piece on Zeno Clash. Dripping "unique" from its very core, it's a game that he, Ryan, and I all agree should be experienced in it's entirety by anyone with the means to do so!

Lastly but not leastly, Cesar and Jason call out Sway for being simply being awesome. Thanks, iPhone!

E3 is only two weeks away! What are you most looking forward to?

UPDATE: As someone so kindly pointed out in the comments, the GFWRadio Archives are still available via the podcast's page on 1UP. Thanks!

I really love the little iPhone segments you guys have been doing! I know its popular right now to hate on iPhone games but please dont let that stop you. Know that you have at least one fan of those segments so I hope its worth it!

This is some great stuff you guys put together. I tell all my gaming friends to check it all out and spread the word. Thanks for your hard work and entertaining information!
Oh! And you guys put together the best damned commercials!

Downloading your show is the first thing I do every Tuesday, great show.

Looking forward to most at E3

Mass Effect 2 (just finished the first one, main quest line was amazing)
More details on Dragon Age: Origins
Left 4 Dead sequel (long shot)
Uncharted 2 (footage so far is looking very good)

Thank you for the wonderful show. It should have been obvious but it really did make me realise that popcap is one very influential and annoyingly addictive game developer. The zombie-flavoured remix minigames in plants vs zombies really hit the point that they are popular enough to self-reference their own games.

Jeff Green and Tiff Chow in one segment? And it's about Plants Vs. Zombies? CO-OP continues to blow my mind, keep up the awesome work! Can't wait for your E3 special!

Strange, I can't play the HD mp4-file on my PSP or PS3, previous shows worked no problem. Apart from that, great show as usual. Keep up the good work guys :)

Great episode! My girlfriend and I watched it last night. Hilarious narrative. I have to check out Plants vs. Zombies now! Yay for Pop Cap finally being recognized as a great developer!

Great episode as usual, and omfg Jeff Green is back! Well he never reallly left but we dont hear much from him anymore.

By the way the show comments listed that the full archives of gfw arent up? I'm not sure if they're complete or not, but 1up appears to still have the show archived here.

@Al ... definitely man! Those are all way up there on my list as well. I'm a sucker for anything BioWare, so yeah, Dragon Age is something I've GOT to see :)

That's what I'm talking about. Get those slackers into shape.

I'm really looking forward to what Microsoft has been keeping under wraps.

This is going to be a pretty important E3. Sony is going to show up big for sure, and I think they need to. Microsoft is going to try to put out Sony's fire. Nintendo...well Nintendo is going to be there. Does Nintendo need to put games out? Do they need to do anything? They just keep making boat loads of money on they're older stuff.

Another great show guys, really enjoyed it. As always, great narrative, and it was really good to see Jeff Green back on the talkies. Nice to see the love for Plants Vs. Zombies, and you've tempted me with Sway as well.
As to your E3 question -
It goes without saying that most people will be looking forward to seeing IW roll out something or other on Modern Warfare 2, but I'm still fairly excited.
Rock Band: Beatles is another big one - I'm guessing that E3 will be when the tracklist is revealed at everyone can bitch about why I'm Only Sleeping isn't on it.
Mostly, though, I'm intrigued to see Brutal Legend - I'm really unsure about it at the moment. Schafer is obviously a man who understands 'the funny', but I've never found 'RAWK' an amusing subject (Spinal Tap aside, obviously.) It'll be an interesting one. I hope it's not simply Psychonauts with a new skin.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming news at E3... it's been 3 years, and I still haven't upgraded to a next-gen system. I'm hoping I'll hear more on upcoming games so I can make the choice between the ps3 and the 360.

Anyways, hope you guys have fun at E3, and show us what you get to see! :D

@regmcfly ... the funny thing is, I'm excited about RB: Beatles, too, and I don't really even listen to the Beatles (I know, I know).

@Robert H. ... Honestly, we don't make it awesome. The fans do. That's no lie.

@Sune ... I'm actually curious what you find in our show that keeps ya watching! Since you don't have any of the consoles whose software is most featured on CO-OP, what do you like/not like? :)

@J Riv ... thanks man!

It must have been torture running around outside in the current heat, even if it was just filmed for a segment. Keep up the good work, guys!

Jeff Green ftw! :) Great to see him back at video.
And great show, guys! At each one the entertainment threshold is surpassed by a great amount! It is always a pleasure to sit back and watch you guys talk and, why not, act. Jay Fresh is a born talent to perform in front of a camera. Rob too!
Keep it up!

All the games I'm excited right now are in this episode! Plants vs Zombies and Zeno Clash (still a crap name) are AMAZING games, they're clearly GOTY contenders for me just because of the amount of satisfaction and enjoyment I got out of them.

great fun, wisdom, information about the most amazing games -mixed with sheer awsomeness (and the beautiful landscape of san francisco):

Great show guys, I especially found the PvZ talk to be delicious. Gave me a renewed desire to buy the game once I find the spare ten (InFamous has first dibs on cash, and Burnout: Paradise if the Island pack comes out this month). The demo itself was very good and I drained it for every minute of that hour they gave you!

As for Zeno Clash, I found the visuals to be quite pleasing to the eyes and imagination. I just couldn't get over the combat in the game. The hand-to-hand combat was very good, even more so considering the game's origins, but failed for me when I ran into multiple enemies. As for the ranged and physical weapons, the game really didn't have the mechanics in place to make them feel comfortable to use in them, in fact I'm sure they were ignored as to promote fist combat. Also, on a smaller note, the main character's voice just bugged the crap out of me. Sounded like he was either bored while reading the roles or incapable of changing his tone. Well, that's what I got from the Demo of the game at least. Solid game, just too frustrating for me to bother with when I could instead buy PvZ... twice over! YEEEEEEEEAH!

Can't wait for next week's show!

As someone who does not possess a lot of money (or a means to acquire it at present) and thusly cannot afford to be the gamer I would love to be, I greatly appreciate the work you all do on CO-OP. Your production provides a high-quality information outlet in a visual form that is unmatched by any other game-related shows I've seen. Instead of only reading about games, I get to see them in action accompanied by intelligent discussion from experienced gamers. It's the next best thing to actually being able to play the games, and for that, you have my undying gratitude and support. Outstanding job!

May 20, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBrian Snider

@matt chandronait: I like co-op so much kuz' it's not like other VG shows. Instead of bluntly reviewing games, you also spend time to share your opinions. Plus, the skits & commercials add the style & humor that other shows forget about, & the quality is excellent!

Adding more to that, it's pretty cool how you guys review games all over San Francisco & more and not just stay in one place. And honestly, I really have no complaints. Even if I don't own any next-gen systems, I'm very interested in gaming culture, and hope to "make the jump" soon so I can actually experience these awesome games I see on the show for myself.

Anyways, I love what you guys are going, and I'll always be updated for the newest eps through Youtube!

Have no a lot of money to buy a building? Worry not, just because that is real to get the loans to work out all the problems. So get a short term loan to buy all you need.

Some time ago, I needed to buy a house for my corporation but I did not earn enough money and couldn't order something. Thank heaven my mate adviced to try to get the personal loans from trustworthy bank. Hence, I acted so and was satisfied with my secured loan.
