CO-OP 0110 -- Barbecued Amends -- X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Demigod, Excitebots, Trixel

Please Digg us if you get the chance! It’s the best way to get more people watching!

Yes, we sorta left Jason in the dust last week, but we make it up to him with a good ol’ fashioned summer BBQ resplendent with delicious eats! We figured it would be a good idea to take some cameras along and reminisce about the week’s gaming adventures. And yes, that screenshot is, indeed, JayFresh partaking directly from the mini-keg. BBQ=success. More after the show:

Big congrats to our friend, Sterling McGarvey, for landing his gig at G4TV.com and an even bigger thanks for stoping by to share his thoughts with JayFresh about X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After hearing these two talk about the game it actually made me want to see the movie, but I’ve since been told the film lacks both slicing and dicing—a much emasculated narrative of the great chopper-in-chief in my opinion, so I’ll forego it. Still, the game ain’t half bad and for a movie-licensed game that’s a-sayin’ somefin’!

I’m also of the opinion that more people need to be playing Demigod! Philip Kollar, whom many of you know from 1UP and from our show has won himself a new position as the gaming editor for Current.com’s gaming channel! Fortunately, unlike Sterling, he’s staying here in San Francisco so we’ll be seeing more of him (and hopefully more of the Current staff!) in the future. Oh, and he’s with me in this segment of our show. Thanks Phil!

The Wii seems to be hitting it’s stride this year with yet another non-Mario, non-Zelda, non-Metroid release that may serve to pull in a wider audience of kart-racing enthusiasts. Excitebots: Trick Racing is what Excitetruck should have been and is ROBOTS on top of that! Dan “Shoe” Hsu comes along for the Area 5 BBQ and hashes it out with Ryan over whether this game is all it’s cracked up to be.

This week’s iPhone shoutout goes to the brain-meltingly difficult puzzler Trixel. I takes a few minutes out of stuffing his face to explain it to Shoe. I love/hate this game so much I find that words fail me.

Give us a shout in the comments! I promise we read them all! <3

Guys, the show is awesome. I've loved every episode, and I feel like it's my "once a week meet-up with my gaming buds" even though I don't actually know you guys. The show is that good/accessible. I will watch this forevar!

About your Wolverine boss issues - you were doing them wrong. In your specific magma monster example, you can actually damage it with regular attacks up to about half it's hitpoints. Which is much faster than just doing lunge over and over.

Really liked the transitional segments this week, and that Click-it or Ticket ad was hilarious. Ryan always nails those one-liners so well, and I love Jay in every one of your ads. Rob still sucks at acting - I laughed pretty hard at his crack during the ad. Not that that's a bad thing anymore.

Thanks for the heads-up on Demigod. I've decided that I'm not going to give it my time now 'cause of you guys. Yea, kind of opposite of what you were going for I guess, but I'd rather just go play DoTA, even if the graphics are damn polished in the former.

Just watching this episode is going to keep my PIMP glass full all day. You guys never fail to keep me entertained every week. Extremely jealous of the Heineken keg by the way. Wish I had one for sure. Bravo guys, and keep up the good work!

HEINEKEN SERIOUSLY!!!!! Thats like drinking sewage water. Try some Belgium beer its waaaaaayy better.

May 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGert

The Heineken was a great touch, the Pimp cup, moreso.

Another very funny episode, you've neaaarly sold me on Excitebots and Demigod, and the idea of two people sitting together on the sofa chatting about a game worked far better than last week's phone call.

keep it up, kids.

"I even got you your own special cup. It says pimp on it."

I don't know why, but that was freaking hilarious to me. Great episode guys!

Why is it that I now know ALL of the words to the theme song?! God dam catchiness (is that a word?). Any where, Im gunner have to get one of those beer kegs to do what JayFresh was doing; it looks fun!

Great show, even went back to the first episodes and watched them all. Perfect for my needs, I want to stay up to date gaming wise but I don't have the time to click through ad laden game sites or read a five page manifesto about a ten minute game. The narrative makes this show really unique (thank you for showing me around the mission), keep it up!

All the best from Berlin!

love the commercials that you do. Did you guys plan on being a professional advertising company? It is working, whatever your doing, keep it up.

Great episode as always, guys! Hovewer I can't help feeling that a little pc game named zenoclash deserves some area5 time. If nothing else just to show off how incredible art design the game has... But your call

Another excellent episode. It's great to see some PC games on CO-OP!

I love that you guys have a respect for all games, even those that most would take a second look at ( I'm talking about you, Wolverine and Exitebots). It's always refreshing to see stuff I haven't heard about from Bombcast and RebelFM for weeks in a row (i.e. fallout DLC and New Vegas).

Also have you guys been on goozex? It's a totally sweet game trading site which I strongly recommend to anyone. If you do decide to sign up "devoninja" referred you.

Peace

FALLOUT 3 DLC. GO!

May 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBubba

or better yet, PLANTS VS ZOMBIES, seriously, have you guys not played this yet?

May 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBubba

I've got to say that this was your best episode yet. The "story" was fun and the new commercial is hilarious. I actually rewound the tape to listen to the pimp bit again. I was really impressed by the transition from Excite Bots to Trixel, that was pro. I was disappointed by the small cast this week, but everyone must be super busy right now and Jay + Stirling = Dream Team.

Great episode, but I've got a few questions.
1. How the hell did I not realize that Cesar was missing!?
2. Why is Ryan doing the Go Daddy voice over?
3. In that Squarespace ad someone says "Can you split the difference?" and Matt says "Purrr-fect." Is this a reference to the first episode of Stella? If you've never heard of the show then that's really weird and you should check it out.

Loved the show guys. Demigod is now a must buy. Thanks.

Great show. Glad you liked Trixel too.

Also, thanks for making me want to buy Wolverine now when I can't afford it.

Goddamnit.

Hey Guys,
I am at the office so I can´t watch the show but on my way to work I was listening to the last Listen UP! podcast and I heard about Sterling and also Andrew Pfister and Patrick who are now a part of G4TV.com. Please let them know my congratulations and regards. I was very worried about Andrew and I am more than happy to know he is on his foot again, too bad is at least 4-6 hours away in LA. I wish Anthony Gallegos find a regular job and the also the best of success to Greg Ford (which has a great place in the Player One Podcast and Geekbox as well) and Michael Donahoe with Bitmob.

Please guys, when you talk about Patapon go to Muir Woods plz! or film from the Coit Tower, Twin Peaks!! Go to the Graveyards at the Necropolis Colma in the night to talk about LFD expansion, you have so many locations in the Bay Area to show off!!!!. Imagine if you talk about RB Beatles in non other that Ashbury Street, Madden 10 in Candlestick Park and Raiders stadium.
