CO-OP 0312 -- Snack Time -- Digital Shorts Special
matt chandronaitWe’re on vacation this week, but we still wanted to get something out there to help fill up all that extra hard drive space you’ve got lying around. Yeah, this week’s show is really short, but we hope the quality makes up for the quantity! If you’ve been following us since the beginning (meaning even before CO-OP showed up on Revision3), you might be familiar with “Area 5 Snacks.” They’re digital shorts that we were putting together in the early days before we found out we needed to make money to stay in business. Here’s all four of them in a row. We would disavow these if we could, but we’ve all got our legacies to live up (or down, as the case may be). More after the show:
These are fun for us. It gives us a chance to flex our filmmaking muscles while being quick to put together. We’re hoping we can get back into doing more of these in the future, but we’re going to have to find a way to expand our asset base, first. Whoa, look at that! I can talk like a business guy! Anyway, let us know what you think. Would you like to see more of this kind of thing or should we stick to game reviews/previews?

Using WMV it keeps playing the shooter special...
Personally, I loved the format of last week's "multiplayer shooter" discussion. I think your show could be that kind of a format every week with a different topic in a "roundtable discussion" type format.

I thought those shorts were hilarous on youtube and now even funnier since they have aged well......
I still even remember the election day 1up episode and when you guys were acting all patriotic and then someone came running in and said that Gears of War 2 was being sold a week early at 7 11 and everybody went running out of the office and the camera guy dropped the camera!

Robo Bank was the only one I had seen from the olden days. The Skate bit was amazing. Snacks could be a good way to separate game segments in a show in place of the usual narrative. Seeing more would be great.
@Adam ... things happen, man! I know it didn't make it into the shooter special, but that was simply due to it not appearing enough in the conversation. We felt it would do the game injustice to just talk about it for about a minute and throw in a quick clip. Better to edit that bit of the conversation out than to look like we're just paying lip service. Thar be much love in me heart for the zombi killin', so don't lose hope just yet! We're going to be a 2009 wrap-up, two-parter event that's going to be all round-table like that, so it should turn out pretty well for ya since you're a fan of that format (so are we!) :)
@Novato ... hahaha! Yeah I remember that episode. Fun one to film! Glad the shorts have aged well. I was a little worried they'd be stale for the die-hard fans.
I prefer these older clips, they appear to be more spontaneous, less scripted.
Oh, by the way, is this page supposed to open a full screen advertisement window, or was that just a coincidence?

Love the "snacks", you guys should make more. Maybe have them go along with an episode every once and a while!
Btw, about "bad CO-OP"... who is that "fat" dude? I heard Jay say Jason but if that's Jason why is he so big? :O
I liked the Hall of Meat one the best. I agree with JV Andres, you should place these between the segments.

@Eric O ... yeah, we'd love to, the only problem is time. We need more time! We're toying with how to bring them back as we really enjoy doing them. Gonna be a while, though :/
You guys should maybe do a making of episode or a docu about what you do to intersperse between segments as well. Penny arcade just did a similar thing. One thing that I notice not noticing is the camera cuts - cleary you have to stop and re-start the dialogue where you left off with a camera where it wasn't before. Cleverly done - thats why I like the short bits and the scripted stuff.
I don't know what else you can do besides reviews and previews unless you want to expand into movies and other entertainment. I started doing a one off sit down with a game to finish in one sitting, edited to taste.
