CO-OP 0203 -- Wii Sports Resort, Overlord 2, Real Racing -- Gamer Cribs: Cesar Quintero

Occasionally we have an episode that features one person over all others. This show is ALL CESAR ALL THE TIME BABY, WOOOOOooo! His smiling countenance appears in each segment and in our first-ever Gamer Cribs. We’d like to thank MTV for all the lame cross-fades, ridiculous camera angles and for setting a standard of reusing the same footage over and over again; saved us a lot of time and brainpower. More after the show:

So, here’s something that was kind of a shocker for some of us (well, for me): Wii Sports Resort is genuinely awesome. Cesar and JayFresh knew it would be, but I couldn’t be convinced until I’d participated in the heretofore-disdained, Motion Plus “waggle.” I’m a convert; mostly because you don’t waggle the Motion Plus, you perform actions analogous to their real-world counterparts. Very considerate of my primate senses, Nintendo.

Overlord 2 is a sequel people have been frothing at the bit over ever since its announcement. The much-beloved premiere of the series is a paragon of evil pastimes for many a gamer and thus this latest incarnation comes with some heavy hype-baggage. Cesar and I are both new to the series and while I remains less-than-impressed (at least partially due to my frustrating experience with the PC controls), Cesar’s evil genes were tickled pink thanks to the baby seal clubbing and mayhem exercises. Our good friend from GameSpy, RebelFM host and Eat. Sleep. Game magnate Anthony Gallegos, was our sole guest on the show this week during this segment and held up his end as an ardent supporter of the franchise.

I think it’s pretty common to expect that the iPhone, as a cell phone platform, lacks the power of a “true” gaming system. Real Racing should change that perception. Ryan was so impressed with the experience that he had to share it with Cesar. See if you agree.

OK this is getting a little retarded. Why do you guys not cover stuff like Ghostbusters? Some of us want to know what you guys think of it.

Gamer cribs is awesome! I like the Kirby painting...gotta get me some gamer paintings like that too...

CESAR YOU RICH BASTARD!

July 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTom

Great ep guys - and damn, I thought I didn't want an iPhone :/

July 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMartyG

Very cleverly done, and very easy to envy Cesar!

Couple of questions -

1) Are you guys going to ever feature a game you truly HATE? I'd just like to see the feedback on that one.

2) Just wondering how you're feeling on Batman Arkham. I'm quite ambivalent at the moment...

The best video game video podcast on the net - Suck it up UGO. You missed out big when you let these superstars go!

@Toodles -- nothing personal, man! We just haven't been able to. There's a ton of factors that go into which games we cover in which weeks, and much of it has to do with guest availability and our own time-crunches that allow us to play (or, in this case, NOT play) games. Sorry! I can't promise that we'll cover Ghostbusters, but I'd really like to if we can swing it!

@regmcfly -- 1) Probably not, but not through intentionality. Given the limited amount of games we can cover in a show we tend to seek out the ones that are exciting to us and that we think will be exciting to our audience. It's much more important to us to highlight a small but truly awesome game with little to no marketing budget in the hopes of helping word of it spread than it is to seek out high-profile titles that we know will be awful. If we had an hour show with 6-8 segments as opposed to 3-4, then I have little doubt we'd run across a lot more haterade.

2) This is one we're working on. I'm hoping we can cover it soon!

Oh and FYI the artist who did the Kirby painting goes by the name RONDO. The painting is titled Kirby Eclipse and we got it at the Giant Robot: Game Over/Continue? Show.

You can check out more of her work here http://rondogoon.blogspot.com/

Just want to give the talented artist some props ;)

Great episode! Love how you're treating the iPhone seriously. Would like to see a bit more indie/lesser-known game coverage.

July 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAdrian

Now, this episode is a very interesting episode, because now we're moving on from a geeky, yet cool review video show, to teh cribs of the famous staffers of 1UP Show/Area5 Co Op.

July 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCarlosX360

You should do Gamer Cribs with Dan Shu's crib. His appartment is like the 1UP offices.Swaaaaaagggg

July 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGert

Why do you have 5 360 controllers when it can only use 4?

July 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWoody

awesome episode :)) I love this game seriously :) I can't sleep all night long to play it, it sort of maniacal but it's true :P

July 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGabriel Celibataire

Where the heck did you get that table? I want one!!

July 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCorey

Gamer Cribs you're idea? I think not!

http://www.thebitbag.com/category/bitbag-tv/gamer-cribs-bitbag-tv/

You can do one of two things:

1. Change the name to something else.
2. Send your Gamer Cribs video to me and I'll post it on my site since Gamer Cribs is a Bitbag Show.

You got my email

Awaiting your reply!

NIce vid. I love your ideas. How did you come up with it? The game seems truly awesome.

@woody: probably because , like he showed us in the video, he owns two Xbox 360's :-)

@ Torrence Davis: It's just a fun segment that they did once. it's not like the entire show will suddenly turn into cribs. Lighten up and don't take it too seriously. Have you watched any of the previous episodes?

July 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPeter Lount

Fun episode. All those consoles and not one gaming pc? How does he play games then? ;-)

July 9, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjccalhoun

@Peter Lount Nope. This is the first I heard of them. One of our fans tipped me off to this so I came to check it out. I won't however, lighten up, until one of the creators responds to me. I think it's purely a coincidence, but I'd like to make sure.

July 9, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTorrence Davis

Torrence, I have no idea who you are or what Bitbag is. This is the first any of us have heard of it and as a previous commenter stated, it was something we thought would be funny when we were coming up with narrative ideas for this week's show. Also, it's not the name of our show. Also also, I don't have your email, not sure who you sent it to. I've emailed the address that you used to make your comment, however, so hopefully that gets where it should.

This episode was an enormous success and proved to
be a great improvement from your last episode, and was more in line with Area 5's quality work. Great work guys, my apologies for my thread on 1up and blog on BitMob -- in case you guys haven't seen it, it was analyzing last week's episode and was meant to be taken strictly as constructive criticism.

Keep it up!

I haven´t try it. But will do it.
I already heard about that and some friends have done it or try it. but haven´t heard about such success. I´ll get it soon, but i won´t pay so much. Lets see!

July 10, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLaura Solteros

How do you make enough money for these games?

July 11, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMatt mythbuster

Great Show (as always)! It would have been nice to know if Ryan has the iPhone 3G or the new 3GS. I imagine Real Racing would play much better on the newer, faster phone so if he has the "old" 3G then I am impressed! I would buy this game immediately if I knew it would run like this on my old 3G.

Boy, these kids are crazy.
We also got together to play video games when we were in highschool (a while back... :D) but our ...facility... didn't even begin to compare with what these kids invest in nowadays.
What can I say, happy gaming!

July 12, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJean Célibataire

This is a really nice idea. I enjoy watching how these geeks live =)
